Old People Mayhem Sandbox ‘Just Die Already’ to Launch on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC on May 20th 2021

Having spent the last 12 months couped up in our houses, it’ll soon be time to collectively step out and breathe in the fresh air. Of course, that’s all before we strap two live fireworks to our tender bodies, propelling us up into the sky before we come crashing back down to the ground, landing in the open jaws of a handy shark who has taken refuge in a nearby river.

Oh wait. No. That’s Just Die Already – the old aged pensioner playground that Curve Digital and DoubleMoose has announced to be launching on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch as well as PC on Steam and Epic Games Store on Thursday May 20th, 2021.

If this is the first time you’ve heard about Just Die Already – and, given we’ve all had so little to do during the last year that even thankless tasks such as “reading a book” or “making conversation with a loved one” have almost seemed legitimate, we frankly find that hard to believe – then hold onto your dentures: Just Die Already tells the tale of old folk who have just been kicked out of their retirement homes, competing with each other to secure a sweet spot some place new by performing dangerous challenges to qualify for free care.

Players can either take on Just Die Already alone or compete in four-player online multiplayer (fully cross-platform too, thanks to Epic Online Services), ticking off dangerous challenges that put your life – and, indeed, every atom of your being – in danger. You’ll lose limbs getting eaten by sharks, you’ll break every single one of your bones, you’ll get squished and squashed and shot to pieces and, if you’re lucky, you’ll stay alive long enough to earn your place at a prized retirement home.

Just Die Already might be a fictional tale of OAPs competing for spots in retirement homes, but given the folks in those homes have food & drink, company, and – most importantly – haircuts on tap, I’m starting to think I should join then,” offers DoubleMoose co-founder Armin Ibrisagic“Seriously, after a year of COVID-dodging, there’s not a single person in a retirement home who doesn’t look younger and fresher than anyone at DoubleMoose. At least we can now take on the comparatively sprightly forms of Just Die Already’s cast of characters when the game launches on May 20th.”

Just Die Already will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch as well as PC on Steam and Epic Games Store on Thursday May 20th, 2021 for £11.99/$14.99/€13.99.

Until then, you can pre-order the game on Steam here or on the Epic Game Store here.

New Pokemon Snap tops the UK game charts

With no surprise, New Pokemon Snap tops the UK physical games chart in the UK. Its reported that New Pokemon Snap launch is four times bigger than the original. New Pokemon Snap is the third biggest launch for the Nintendo Switch behind Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (Read our review here) and Monster Hunter Rise this year.

Sony’s new IP Returnal debuts in 2nd place in the charts. The reviews have been good for Returnal, yet sales proves that it has under performed against other top PlayStation triple A games. Is it because of the shortages of PS5’s available? It’s a likely cause.

However, it isn’t looking good for Nier Replicant remastered. Nier debuted at No. 1 last week but has fallen all the way down to 22 with a 78% drop in sales.

Battlefield reveal soon

EA/DICE will be revealing the next instalment in the Battlefield series soon.

In a blog post, posted today:

“Hey BattlefieldTM community!

I know everyone is wanting more detail about what’s to come for Battlefield this year, and I promise we have A LOT to show you in the coming months. We’re putting some things together for when we reveal the next generation of Battlefield, and we can’t wait to show that to you all…but for now, we have a couple of things we wanted to tell you about.

First, we’re really excited to have the biggest Battlefield development team ever working on our console and PC game for this Holiday season, and second…we have something very exciting to talk about on mobile!”

2021 is an exciting time for us here at DICE. Working with more world-class development studios within Electronic Arts, we have our biggest team ever on a Battlefield game for console and PC. Our friends at Criterion and DICE LA are working with us on our shared vision for the game, while the team in Gothenburg is taking technology in the game to the next level. Together, we are creating a jaw-dropping experience for you to enjoy later in 2021.”

“We’re in daily playtesting mode right now: polishing, balancing, and making the best possible Battlefield game we can. I can tell you it is a bold step. It has everything we love about Battlefield – and takes all of it to the next level. Epic scale. All-out military warfare. Crazy, unexpected moments. Game-changing destruction. Massive battles, packed with more players and mayhem than ever before. All brought to life with the power of next-gen consoles and PCs.”

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles Western Release Announced

Capcom has announced that The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures and The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve will be coming to the West, bundled as The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.

Join Phoenix’s Wright’s ancestor, Ryunosuke Naruhodo, as he takes his first incredibly nervous steps into a courtroom in Meiji era Japan to defend his very first client: himself! Soon after, it may seem like you’ll be saying yoi tabi o to Ryunosuke as he leaves Nippon, but you’ll be joining him on his journey as he embarks on adventures that will take him overseas to England’s courts and back again.

Ten novel adventures await you, taking place about a century before the events of the original Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. As Ryunosuke travels from his home in Japan to foreign soil in Europe, he’ll make his case in court and defend the innocence of his clients. A different region – and a different time period – means a brand new cast of weird and wonderful people that will stand with, and against, Ryunosuke on his many escapades as well. Seems like being a magnet for peculiar characters runs in the family.

[…] While the faces, the places, and the era may be different, some things never change. You’ll still need to gather evidence at crime scenes and defend your client in court if you want to prove their innocence, and The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles offers classic gameplay with plenty of new improvements on both fronts!

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles introduces a brand new feature to the franchise for fans and newcomers who want to enjoy a more stress-free experience: Story Mode! Just as it says on the tin, this mode allows you to kick back and enjoy the story while the game effectively plays itself. No need to dig for evidence at crime scenes or find just the right piece of evidence in court; you can enjoy the game as if it were a visual novel or even a TV show. This mode is purely optional and can be toggled on or off whenever you wish during gameplay.

The collection also includes additional features:

  • A gallery of art and illustrations, complete with commentary from the art director, and watch moving pictures (i.e. fully animated videos) from the story.
  • Freely switch between English and Japanese audio
  • Eight additional “Escapades” (mini-episodes separate from the main story), two “Special Trial” videos, thirteen video clips from “Ryunosuke Naruhodo’s Seven <_ of Sin”, and three alternate, optional costumes for The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles will released on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Steam on the 27th of July 2021.

Sony backtracks, PlayStation Store will continue to operate on PS3 and PS Vita

Sony announced that the PlayStation store will cease on PS3 and PS Vita in the summer of this year. Well, Sony has decided to backtrack on that decision and the PlayStation store will continue to operate on the PS3 and PS Vita.

Jim Ryan says in the official PlayStation Europe blog:

“Recently, we notified players that PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita devices was planned to end this summer.”

“Upon further reflection, however, it’s clear that we made the wrong decision here. So today I’m happy to say that we will be keeping the PlayStation Store operational for PS3 and PS Vita devices. PSP commerce functionality will retire on July 2, 2021 as planned.”

“When we initially came to the decision to end purchasing support for PS3 and PS Vita, it was born out of a number of factors, including commerce support challenges for older devices and the ability for us to focus more of our resources on newer devices where a majority of our gamers are playing on. We see now that many of you are incredibly passionate about being able to continue purchasing classic games on PS3 and PS Vita for the foreseeable future, so I’m glad we were able to find a solution to continue operations.”

“I’m glad that we can keep this piece of our history alive for gamers to enjoy, while we continue to create cutting-edge new game worlds for PS4, PS5, and the next generation of VR.”

“Thank you for sharing your feedback with us – we’re always listening and appreciate the support from our PlayStation community.”
