Old People Mayhem Sandbox ‘Just Die Already’ to Launch on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC on May 20th 2021

Having spent the last 12 months couped up in our houses, it’ll soon be time to collectively step out and breathe in the fresh air. Of course, that’s all before we strap two live fireworks to our tender bodies, propelling us up into the sky before we come crashing back down to the ground, landing in the open jaws of a handy shark who has taken refuge in a nearby river.

Oh wait. No. That’s Just Die Already – the old aged pensioner playground that Curve Digital and DoubleMoose has announced to be launching on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch as well as PC on Steam and Epic Games Store on Thursday May 20th, 2021.

If this is the first time you’ve heard about Just Die Already – and, given we’ve all had so little to do during the last year that even thankless tasks such as “reading a book” or “making conversation with a loved one” have almost seemed legitimate, we frankly find that hard to believe – then hold onto your dentures: Just Die Already tells the tale of old folk who have just been kicked out of their retirement homes, competing with each other to secure a sweet spot some place new by performing dangerous challenges to qualify for free care.

Players can either take on Just Die Already alone or compete in four-player online multiplayer (fully cross-platform too, thanks to Epic Online Services), ticking off dangerous challenges that put your life – and, indeed, every atom of your being – in danger. You’ll lose limbs getting eaten by sharks, you’ll break every single one of your bones, you’ll get squished and squashed and shot to pieces and, if you’re lucky, you’ll stay alive long enough to earn your place at a prized retirement home.

Just Die Already might be a fictional tale of OAPs competing for spots in retirement homes, but given the folks in those homes have food & drink, company, and – most importantly – haircuts on tap, I’m starting to think I should join then,” offers DoubleMoose co-founder Armin Ibrisagic“Seriously, after a year of COVID-dodging, there’s not a single person in a retirement home who doesn’t look younger and fresher than anyone at DoubleMoose. At least we can now take on the comparatively sprightly forms of Just Die Already’s cast of characters when the game launches on May 20th.”

For more insights into Frank’s mind, the protagonist of Just Die Already, follow the Twitter account here: @JustDieGame. Be warned: Frank does not hold back…or even know what Twitter is, really.

Just Die Already will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch as well as PC on Steam and Epic Games Store on Thursday May 20th, 2021 for £11.99/$14.99/€13.99.

Until then, you can pre-order the game on Steam here or on the Epic Game Store here.

Award-Winning 360° Rogue-lite Sci-Fi Shooter Orbital Bullet is Now Available on Steam Early Access

German publisher Assemble Entertainment and developer SmokeStab Studio announced the Early Access launch of their highly-anticipated award-winning rogue-lite shooter Orbital Bullet. Now available on Windows PC via Steam, Orbital Bullet introduces a genre-bending 360° rotating level design, providing a whirling and swirling high-octane guns-blazing action-platforming experience where you’ll need to play a deadly game of “ring-around-the-rosie” in order to outsmart enemies and dodge all manner of propelled perils.

Orbital Bullet is a title that screams ‘instant classic,’ and we’re thrilled to have such a unique and refreshing addition to the beloved genre in our quickly expanding roster,” said Assemble Entertainment CEO Stefan Marcinek. “The game brings something long-desired to the table in the form of fast-paced action and eccentric gameplay paired with distinctive level design and classic rogue-like merit.”

Orbital Bullet is included in Assemble Entertainment’s massive (and exclusive) publisher sale on Steam, where almost the entire portfolio of indie titles are available for up to 90% off for a limited time.

To celebrate the Early Access release, Assemble Entertainment has unveiled a brand new launch trailer, depicting one of Orbital Bullet’s not-yet-seen level biomes: the Water Planet. In addition to the lush and flourishing Jungle and Cave biomes, the Water Planet introduces new bosses, tricky puzzles, and environmental perplexities.

Orbital Bullet is a multi-award-winning action-platformer that takes the tried-and-true, highly addictive rogue-lite formula and adds a unique twist with a 360° rotating level design. Players can expect fluid, fast-paced gameplay featuring procedurally generated enemies and level elements, with “instant-transmission” upon completion of a stage — keeping the rhythm going and the action flowing! Of course, it wouldn’t be a rogue-lite without a deep skill tree, game-changing body modifications, upgrades, and of course, a diverse range of heavy weaponry with which to dispatch the hordes of enemies keeping you from reaching the next level!

Key Features of Orbital Bullet:

  • Nothing ‘Rosie’ About This Ring: A unique 2.5D ring-shaped world offers a one-of-a-kind setting fresh for the genre with a rotating 360° level design. Make the most satisfying long-range curved snipes you’ve ever made, or blast and shred enemies with a load from the Hyper Shotgun
  • Bullets and Body Mods: It wouldn’t be a rogue-like without all sorts of nifty upgrades, mods, skill trees, and heavy weapons to keep your sci-fi fustigator strapped and ready for action — enhance your character’s vigor by unlocking permanent upgrades such as the Combo System, the Medi-Backpack, or a stronger starting weapon.
  • Stay Classy: Four meticulously crafted classes can be unlocked by solving challenging puzzles and include epic abilities per class, such as the turret-wielding Engineer or the fire-fueled Hellion.
  • Intense Arcade Action: A game that defines “one more run”, Orbital Bullet throws players into the fray with fierce, frenetic action. Jump, dodge, and shoot your way through hordes of enemies as you wind your way around several beautiful and unique biomes.
  • No Time to Relax: Instant level transitions upon completion of a stage keep the mayhem flowing and your trigger finger dialed; no more interrupting the rhythm with cutscenes or hub worlds!

The promising and already highly acclaimed action-platformer has already won several awards, including “Best Concept with Prototype” at GermanDevDays 2019, and the second-place prize in the “Prototype Young Talent Award” category at Deutscher Entwicklerpreis 2019. The Heidelberg-based studio SmokeStab also had Orbital Bullet nominated for the highly industry-relevant IGF Awards as “Best Student Game” at GDC 2020.

Throughout Early Access, developer SmokeStab Studio invites casual players, fans, and all members of the community to join the official Discord to share feedback, gameplay recommendations, content suggestions for new weapons, challenges, bosses, planets, enemies, and more during the pre-launch phase.

Developed by SmokeStab Studio and published by Assemble Entertainment, Orbital Bullet is an Early Access title currently available on Steam for £10.29 / €12.99 . On theme with the game’s diverse biome-based environments, Assemble Entertainment has teamed up with Ocean Cleanup — a non-profit foundation leading the world’s largest coordinated ocean cleanup effort — to offer a special Save The World Edition on Steam for £18.99 /€ 22.00 , which includes the official game soundtrack and a 10% donation to the cause. New Pokemon Snap tops the UK game charts

With no surprise, New Pokemon Snap tops the UK physical games chart in the UK. Its reported that New Pokemon Snap launch is four times bigger than the original. New Pokemon Snap is the third biggest launch for the Nintendo Switch behind Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (Read our review here) and Monster Hunter Rise this year.

Sony’s new IP Returnal debuts in 2nd place in the charts. The reviews have been good for Returnal, yet sales proves that it has under performed against other top PlayStation triple A games. Is it because of the shortages of PS5’s available? It’s a likely cause.

However, it isn’t looking good for Nier Replicant remastered. Nier debuted at No. 1 last week but has fallen all the way down to 22 with a 78% drop in sales.

INCOMING TRANSMISSION RECEIVED… SHELTERED 2 TO LAUNCH ON STEAM IN 2021

Team17 and Unicube have announced the sequel to the resource management survival game, Sheltered. Launching on Steam later this year, Sheltered 2 is set in a fractured post-apocalyptic world, where life is no longer what it once was. Boasting a new 3D art style, combat system, factions, and challenges for players to face in the desolate wasteland they call home, Sheltered 2 is a dark and punishing addition to the series.

Building upon the original 2015 game, Sheltered 2 brings deeper strategic gameplay to the post-apocalypse. Players will be tasked with creating a leader and building their own faction, all while managing resources, balancing survivor needs, and keeping their base safe from external threats; everything from starvation and dehydration to radiation and enemy raids can prove fatal.

Sheltered 2’s new factions system will be pivotal to a base’s success; players are able to send out expeditions to explore the vast and unforgiving wilderness, enabling them to forge relationships or ignite bitter rivalries that will be catastrophic if not navigated correctly. Players can also trade resources with other factions, allowing both bases to survive and thrive together; or they can go head-to-head with rivals in an expanded combat system, using force to grow their foothold in the wasteland.

Sheltered 2 Key Features:

  • Factions: The factions system allows players to forge relationships with other groups to provide their base with resources and support, or they can grab their weapons and take things the old-fashioned way
  • Resource Management: Players will balance the needs and wants of their survivors, manage scarce resources, craft items needed to maintain the shelter, and build equipment to keep their group alive
  • Permadeath: New for Sheltered 2. The leader is the most important member of the shelter, so permadeath means that if they die, the game is over. Starvation, asphyxiation, extreme temperatures, and combat are just some of the challenges players will face in the harsh wasteland
  • Combat & Weapons: When negotiations fail, players will wield a huge variety of makeshift weaponry against hostile outsiders, fighting to the death in turn-based combat to win the critical resources needed to survive
  • Characters: Survivors have their own personalities, traits, desires, and skills to acquire, and the ability to customise each individually means every faction member is unique.

Dean Foster & Sonny Meek, Unicube, said:

“We’re excited to work with Team17 again for Sheltered 2; their support with the first game, and with the upcoming sequel, has been fantastic and we can’t wait for players to experience the bleak and challenging world we’ve created in Sheltered 2.”

Danny Hartshorne, Producer, Team17, said:

“Working with Unicube on Sheltered 2 allowed us to build upon the solid foundation of the first game and we’ve worked together to create a dark and gritty sequel, which we hope players will enjoy when it launches later this year.”

Sci-Fi Noir Adventure Lacuna is Headed to Steam Next Month

Assemble Entertainment and developer DigiTales Interactive’s story-driven sci-fi noir adventure Lacuna is headed to Windows PC via Steam on 20th May, 2021, for a full commercial launch. To celebrate the announcement of the release date, the publisher has made a permanent free-to-play prologue demo available on Steam, featuring an hour of riveting playtime.

Lacuna — winner of ‘Best Prototype’ at Game Award Saar and second place for “Best Game” at Indie Game Fest 2019 — is a story-based pixel art adventure set in a beautiful 2D sci-fi noir universe that challenges the player to utilize extensive dialogue options to make decisions with potentially serious consequences. In the game, players must use their moral compass to navigate an emotionally intense experience that may or may not stimulate some critical self-reflection.

In Lacuna, you’ll step into the tattered loafers of long-time Central Department of Investigation (CDI) agent Neil Conrad, who’s just been informed of a grisly murder that will soon turn the world on its head. Attention to detail and an inquisitive mind will prove helpful as you put the scattered pieces of the case together until the truth reveals itself…or not. The story of Lacuna branches, and finally ends, based on your actions throughout the game — and there’s no going back. Don’t try rushing to the end, or you’ll pay a hefty price; play your cards right and you might just make it out alive.

Lacuna does away with the baggage of many over-used adventure game tropes such as the “point-and-click” mechanic, repeating dialogue options, counter-intuitive puzzles, pixel hunting, and interruptive story breaks. Instead, Lacuna utilizes normal WASD/controller controls, dynamic conversational choices, story-driven mysteries, optional interactables, multiple unique endings, and a story that marches onward in spite of obstacles.

Additionally, Assemble Entertainment formally kicks off its massive annual publisher sale on Steam at 6:00pm UK / 7:00pm CET. As part of the promotion, almost all Assemble Entertainment titles are heavily discounted — some by up to 90%! Learn more and browse the discounted portfolio here

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles Western Release Announced

Capcom has announced that The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures and The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve will be coming to the West, bundled as The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.

Join Phoenix’s Wright’s ancestor, Ryunosuke Naruhodo, as he takes his first incredibly nervous steps into a courtroom in Meiji era Japan to defend his very first client: himself! Soon after, it may seem like you’ll be saying yoi tabi o to Ryunosuke as he leaves Nippon, but you’ll be joining him on his journey as he embarks on adventures that will take him overseas to England’s courts and back again.

Ten novel adventures await you, taking place about a century before the events of the original Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. As Ryunosuke travels from his home in Japan to foreign soil in Europe, he’ll make his case in court and defend the innocence of his clients. A different region – and a different time period – means a brand new cast of weird and wonderful people that will stand with, and against, Ryunosuke on his many escapades as well. Seems like being a magnet for peculiar characters runs in the family.

[…] While the faces, the places, and the era may be different, some things never change. You’ll still need to gather evidence at crime scenes and defend your client in court if you want to prove their innocence, and The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles offers classic gameplay with plenty of new improvements on both fronts!

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles introduces a brand new feature to the franchise for fans and newcomers who want to enjoy a more stress-free experience: Story Mode! Just as it says on the tin, this mode allows you to kick back and enjoy the story while the game effectively plays itself. No need to dig for evidence at crime scenes or find just the right piece of evidence in court; you can enjoy the game as if it were a visual novel or even a TV show. This mode is purely optional and can be toggled on or off whenever you wish during gameplay.

The collection also includes additional features:

  • A gallery of art and illustrations, complete with commentary from the art director, and watch moving pictures (i.e. fully animated videos) from the story.
  • Freely switch between English and Japanese audio
  • Eight additional “Escapades” (mini-episodes separate from the main story), two “Special Trial” videos, thirteen video clips from “Ryunosuke Naruhodo’s Seven <_ of Sin”, and three alternate, optional costumes for The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles will released on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Steam on the 27th of July 2021.
