Our Game Of The Year Feature

Sit back and read our personal GOTY on the Nintendo Switch!

Unreal to say its this time of year already, where has the time gone? Anyways… We hope you have had a great Christmas with loved ones and gearing up for a nice New Year. If you are new to the Nintendo Switch, hopefully our GOTY feature will help you buy games for your new shiny console.

My GOTY for me has to be Monster Hunter Rise. The game takes the grind to the next level, the locales and monsters are of epic proportions. The stronghold mode which is like a tower defence game, is so addicting and rewarding with materials and xp to increase your MH rank up. As a staple for the Series. Its the end game which all Monster Hunter games really comes to life. Monster Hunter Rise is a must have title for the Nintendo Switch and better yet, the Sunbreak DLC is coming in the summer next year!

The game of the year for me is… Well, actually it’s the same as last year: Animal Crossing New Horizons. I poured the most hours into it. Especially after the 2.0 update which added a ton of new features and not to mention the Happy Home Paradise DLC, which is basically a different game on its own. There’s so much to do in the game right now and I’m having a hard time putting my Switch done.

In second place: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. It is what I’ve been longing for in a Zelda game. Don’t get me wrong, I like Breath of the Wild, but I missed the dungeons! The storytelling was amazing and though the controls weren’t always optimal (let’s leave it at that), this has honestly become one of my favourite Zelda games. A true masterpiece.

I’m placing Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl in the third place. It’s been years since I played the originals and this update is really good. Especially the Underground. I could literally just waste hours away in there digging for stones and battling Pokémon in the new biomes. The game looks so good as well. It’s an honest joy to play!

My game of the year has to be Kitaria Fables, while it has it’s faults or areas it’s lacking in for some people, it has to be one of the best Kickstarter games I’ve seen this year. The adorableness of all the characters and the decent pace of combat was enough to keep me interested, with a touch of farming when I needed healing items or quest items. If there is to be a Kitaria Fables 2, all I’d really like to see is more interaction and bonding with the other villagers, they were all so interesting but you never truly get to bond with any of them.

Once again, I have not played much this year, but I was pleasantly surprised with the enhancements Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury brings. It brings one of the Wii U’s greatest games to the Switch, with enough enhancements to make it a fresh new experience even if you have already played it before, such as the online multiplayer, or increases to all characters movement speed. Bowser’s Fury was not the big open world Mario game I thought it would be, but it does give a nice change of pace from the standard 3D World gameplay. I absolutely recommend Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury to anyone who enjoys Mario platformers, or games with friends

Hopefully this will help you to purchase either one of these games mentioned. 2022 for the Nintendo Switch is going to be a big year with:

  • Pokemon Legends: Arceus
  • Zelda Breath of the Wild 2?
  • Bayonetta 3?
  • Splatoon 3
  • Kirby Forgotten Land
  • Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope

And of course the many indie and third party titles heading to the Nintendo Switch next year. We hope you have a great New Year and see you in 2022!
