Gaming Square: Game Of The Year

Hello! What a year it has been for everyone. It certainly has been one turbulent ride, yet videogames has proven to be just as popular as ever before.

We have seen some big games release this year such as; Animal Crossing New Horizons, The Last Of Us Part II, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Persona 5 Royal, Cyberpunk 2077 and Ghost of Tsushima.

With that being said. Here at Gaming Square, we have all picked our Game Of The Year, which we think you should pick up and play!

Animal Crossing New Horizons

Animal Crossing New Horizons. I’ve been sucked in and I can’t get out. I love ending my day on my relaxing island just taking care of some chores and talking to my fellow inhabitants.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE

The title that helped coerce me into buying a Switch in the first place. I had been looking forward to this title since I heard the two franchises were doing a crossover. Lived up to the hype I’d had, absolutely fantastic and would recommend absolutely.

Super Widzy

Dragonball Z Kakarot

What a game. I have only recently got into Dragonball Z and this game was perfect, ideal in fact for me personally. I have watched the Anime and Kakarot follows Goku’s journey from the start. Highly recommend playing!

Animal Crossing New Horizons

My Game of the Year is Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It’s the first Animal Crossing I’ve ever played and I loved it. It staved off boredom during the lockdowns and is a great way to unwind.

The games I’m looking forward to next year are Resident Evil: Village, Horizon: Forbidden West and Persona 5: Scramble.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and The Blade Of Light

So I haven’t played much this year, but one of the few games I was looking forward to when it was announced was Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. I’m already a big Fire Emblem fan, but never have played any of the Japanese games, so I was happy that it got an English localization. I think the Special Edition really pushed it over the edge for me, it is a work of art and super cool as a fan. Newer fans may find the game dated, but I am still having a great time with it. Wasn’t a tough competition for me, but I recommend any Fire Emblem or strategy fan to play this.

Candid Willow

My GOTY has to be Animal Crossing New Horizons. This year has been such a mess that the sheer normalcy of ACNH has been a wonderful escape – it’s also the only Animal Corrsing that’s kept my attention for more than a couple of weeks, which says a fair bit about the improvements they’ve made. I don’t know if it would be my GOTY if it weren’t for the pandemic, as I’m more of a puzzle and adventure fan, but it definitely came at the best time possible for both sales and players. Well played, Nintendo, well played!
