Good news for those in Tokyo! To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Super Mario the JR East rail company will be holding both digital and physical events.
The first of these events is an actual stamp rally that will run from the 8 of October till the 17th of December 2020 and span 35 train stations along the Yamanote line and surrounding JR lines in the Tokyo area.
Physical event: Using their smartphones participants can collect stamps at the participating train stations, via QR codes.
Digital event: The main website will have stamps from a selection of stations, which will change daily. In contrast to the physical event, the digital event will only be held from November 10 through December 17.
Those who participate in either the physical or digital event will have a chance to win a limited edition JR East Super Mario pass case for their IC cards. (IC Cards are used as digital payment to ride public transit in Japan.)
Tokyo Station and Shinjuku Station will have special art exhibits to celebrate Mario’s 35th. These will featuring the history of Mario characters and their designs over the years. The exhibits will be on display from October 8 through November 23.
