It’s been a big summer for all things EA Access — or, as we should say now, EA Play.
A few weeks ago, Electronic Arts changed the name of Origin Access to EA Play. Turns out it’s not just the subscription service getting a shake-up however, oh no, they’re coming for the Origin software too. EA aren’t getting rid of their launcher, rather it’s suffering a far worse fate: it’s being renamed to the EA desktop app.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, it’s called the EA desktop app. However, there’s some confusion as GamesBeat called it the EA Desktop app.
In an interview with GamesBeat, EA said the app will offer faster updates and downloads, more straightforward access to games and expanded cross-play features. EA Desktop also has Playtime Controls that’ll give parents oversight over how long their kids can keep playing.
Signups for the EA Desktop closed beta are now open. EA will send out invitations on a first-come, first-served basis.
